What's the Difference in Lip Fillers?

In the world of cosmetic enhancements, lip fillers have become one of the most popular non-surgical treatments to enhance lip volume, smooth wrinkles, and create a more youthful appearance. Among the various brands of lip fillers available, Juvéderm stands out as a trusted and FDA-approved option. With two primary formulas—Juvéderm Ultra and Juvéderm Volbella—there are subtle yet important differences that help patients choose the right treatment for their goals. Here’s an in-depth look at Juvéderm lip fillers, the difference between Ultra and Volbella, and what you can expect from the procedure.

What Are Juvéderm Lip Fillers?

Juvéderm is a family of hyaluronic acid-based dermal fillers that are used to add volume to different areas of the face, including the lips. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance in the body that retains moisture, creating smooth, plump skin. When injected into the lips, Juvéderm’s hyaluronic acid gel adds volume and structure, enhancing the lip contour and providing a natural-looking result.

Juvéderm lip fillers are FDA-approved, meaning they have undergone rigorous testing and have been shown to be both safe and effective when used by a qualified professional.

Juvéderm Ultra vs. Juvéderm Volbella

  • Juvéderm Ultra: Thicker and more robust, Ultra is ideal for those seeking fuller, plumper lips. It lasts about 6 months and provides more noticeable volume and definition.

  • Juvéderm Volbella: Softer and more subtle, Volbella is perfect for natural-looking enhancements or smoothing fine lines. It lasts up to 1 year, making it a longer-lasting option.

Cost and Treatment Options

A full syringe of either filler costs $750 and is about the size of a blueberry (1 ml), enough to achieve noticeable results. For those who prefer a more subtle change, a half-syringe of Volbella is available by request for $550.

Numbing for Comfort

To ensure a comfortable experience, a BLT cream (benzocaine, lidocaine, tetracaine) is applied to numb the lips before the procedure. This potent numbing cream helps minimize discomfort, making the treatment much more pleasant.

Age Requirement

Beautox Bar requires the age minimum of 21 years old to receive any filler treatments. If under 21, a parent or guardian is required to sign all consents and the patient and parent/ guardian would need to sign an under 21 year old waiver.  It is highly encouraged that a patient wait until they are 21 years of age to have any type of filler treatment as the facial features are still developing.

Important Tips for Lip Filler Aftercare at Beautox Bar

After getting lip filler, it's important to remember that the treatment takes up to 28 days to fully settle in. During this time, the filler is adjusting to the natural contours of your lips, and the final results will become more defined as the swelling and any minor bruising subside.

At Beautox Bar, we strongly recommend following our aftercare guidelines to ensure the best possible results. One key thing to note is that we cannot touch the lips for 2 weeks after the treatment—this means no touch-ups or dissolving during this period. It’s crucial to wait the full two weeks to allow the filler to settle and achieve its optimal shape.

To promote healing and reduce any swelling or bruising:

  • Icing the lips on the first day helps with swelling.

  • Take Arnica Montana pellets—5 the night of your treatment and 5 the next morning, to reduce bruising.

  • For the first week, avoid using any lip balms, glosses, or lipstick. Instead, apply Arnica Montana or Aquaphor on your lips to keep them hydrated.

  • Avoid straws, excessive puckering, or any heavy lip movements (such as kissing) for the first week to ensure the filler stays in place.

By following these simple steps, you’ll help your lips heal properly and maintain the beautiful results of your lip filler. If you have any questions or concerns, don’t hesitate to reach out to us!
