Six Reasons to Wear Sunblock Daily

Some of our clients call it an inconvenience. Others claim it’s as important as meeting their daily water or professional productivity goals. Some Beautox Bar patrons even skip it entirely. We are speaking, of course, about sunblock and hope the following six reasons motivate you to wear it every day.

Prevents Skin Cancer

While beauty is what we do, not everyone considers that everyone looks their best when they are at their healthiest. Good health means that your body feels and functions at its best. Therefore, it stands to reason that the most crucial reason sunblock is critical for health is that it prevents skin cancer.

Although skin cancer doesn’t get the kind of attention that breast or lung cancer do in the media, it is still the fifth most common cancer in the United States. It is also the fifth most deadly cancer in the United States. Fortunately, it has a relatively high five-year survival rate of 93.3%, but nothing beats prevention. Wearing sunblock can help keep this dreadful disease away in the first place.

Using a sunblock with an SPF or Sun Protection Factor of at least 30 can help block harmful ultraviolet (UV) rays. Even on cloudy days, the sun emits two types of UV rays. They are called UVA and UVB and cause skin aging and burning, respectively. Reapplying a broad-spectrum sunblock with an SPF of at least 30 every two hours can help protect you from these harmful rays.

Stops Sunburns

When sunblock protects against sunburn, it is actually reducing the inflammation that happens in your skin cells when they are exposed to UVB light. This damage occurs whether you decide to skip the sunblock outside or spend time in a tanning booth or bed.

As with most problems, sunburn can cause more significant issues when it repeatedly happens or is more severe. Suppose you ever get a sunburn that becomes severe enough to develop blisters. In that case, it is a medical condition, and we recommend that you contact a board-certified dermatologist for appropriate treatment. They can examine your sunburn, help you manage your pain, and offer treatments to possibly reduce your risk of scarring.

Reduces Harmful Inflammation

The inflammation from sunburn is even more of an issue if you have an underlying skin condition like rosacea or psoriasis. These two conditions make the skin more likely to become red, swollen, or painful. Many of our clients with such issues report that sunblocks with primary ingredients such as titanium dioxide or zinc oxide are gentler alternatives to traditional products.

While they are easier to apply, spray-on sunscreens often contain alcohol which tends to dry the skin and worsen sensitivity issues. Whichever product you choose, we hope that you’ll run it by a qualified dermatologist. After all, you deserve the safest and most effective sunblock products for your skin.

Lessens Skin Discoloration

One of the most striking differences that we see between our clients who embrace sunblock and those who shun it is skin discoloration. While wrinkles may be bothersome, the first thing others notice about skin is its color. When skin color is not even, it is obvious to even the most casual observer.

While “sun spots,” “age spots,” or “liver spots” tend to occur later in life, now is the time to stop these tan or brown spots from developing on your face, arms, or hands. If you’re already living with such spots, proper care can help keep them from worsening. We’re pleased to report that our male and female customers can enjoy a more even complexion later in life when they take a minute or two to reapply sunblock throughout the day.

Slows Premature Aging

Skin is made of much more than its surface. The epidermis, dermis, and hypodermis are the skin’s three layers. Many signs of skin aging are due to damage in the dermis, which makes up more than 90% of the skin’s thickness.

This middle layer of skin is also where collagen and elastin are housed. Collagen is a protein that keeps skin firm. Elastin is also a protein, but it has a very different function; it helps keep the skin flexible enough to regain its shape after it is stretched.

While guarding your skin against UVA-driven dermis damage can prevent additional loss of the skin’s elasticity and durability, the benefits don’t end there. The dermis is home to hair follicle roots, so it is essential for keeping your locks healthy. This crucial skin component also contains your sensory nerves, so preserving your dermis helps keep you safe by giving you quick warnings against heat, friction, and other environmental dangers.

Keeps Your Entire Body Healthy

Nothing looks better to us than healthy clients coming to see us amid full and exciting lives. Keeping your skin healthy is about more than the way you look. The skin has so many functions for your overall health.

In addition to being the immune system’s first barrier against infection, the skin also helps keep your body temperature in check and provides oil to prevent your skin from wrinkling every time you sweat. The skin also helps cushion your bones and internal organs.

Taking the time to wear sunblock also communicates that you prioritize your own well-being. Our team sees this happen all the time among clients who receive services. Treating your body to a nutrient-rich piece of fruit or a satisfying strength training session is a natural result of caring for your body.

Before you know it, such nourishing swaps occur more frequently. The result is an enthusiastic and dedicated commitment to choosing the best for yourself.
