These Lips Don’t Lie

These Lips Don’t Lie

There are many misnomers and misconceptions about Lip Filler. Lots of younger women are getting their lips done thanks to the Kardashian effect, but many don’t really know what they are getting into. Let’s lift the veil to show what is behind the curtain when it comes to Lip Fillers.

History of Lip Fillers

Dermal fillers as they are known made their debut in the 1970s when various animal collagens had been researched and tested enough to use on humans and therefore collagen injections and implants were introduced. Specifically, bovine collagen, or collagen derived from cows was used as a filler.

Before these collagen injections we need to go back a bit more to the history of what most medspa practices use today which is Hyaluronic Acid. Two medical researchers at Columbia University originally determined two of the functions of hyaluronic acid to be hydration of the skin and sustaining a plump appearance. In 1934, these researchers, Karl Meyer and John Palmer, gave this substance its name from the combination of the Greek word, hyalos, meaning glass, and the uronic sugar within the substance. Hyaluronic acid was later used for baking in the 1940s. Its medicinal use did not come about until the 1990s when uses started to include relief for joint pain and wound treatment. The first uses of hyaluronic acid for facial treatments took place in Europe in 1996. Hyaluronic Acid is a natural substance in the skin that delivers nutrients, helps the skin retain moisture and softness, and adds volume.

By the early 2000s, Hyaluronic Acid fillers really started booming and becoming part of the normal vernacular of cosmetic conversation with practitioners.

Beautox Bar Lip Fillers

At the Beautox Bar, we only use Juvéderm’s collection of fillers. JUVÉDERM® is the #1 selling collection of hyaluronic acid fillers in the U.S. Each product in the JUVÉDERM® Collection of Fillers adds volume to a different area of the face—without surgery. All JUVÉDERM® fillers are smooth, crystal-clear gels that are injected where needed.

Different formulations are approved to either smooth parentheses lines, smooth vertical lip lines, or plump the lips. The results are subtle and long-lasting and all give you a more natural look.
 ● JUVÉDERM® VOLLURE™ XC softens moderate to severe parentheses lines and wrinkles by adding subtle volume around the nose and mouth.
● JUVÉDERM® VOLBELLA™ XC adds subtle volume to lips and softens the appearance of vertical lip lines.
● JUVÉDERM® Ultra XC adds fullness and plumps lips as well as smooths and corrects moderate to severe parentheses lines in adults.

We find Ultra is our most popular as it adds the fullness the younger gals want and it lasts up to 9 months.

What to Expect From Lip Filler Treatments

Many clients are hesitant to get their lips done due to the pain they hear about when it comes to lip injections. The lip area can be the most sensitive so we numb the lips with numbing cream for 15 -20 minutes before we inject. JUVÉDERM® fillers do contain pain-reducing lidocaine to help manage pain or discomfort during the injection. We also ice the area to close the capillaries and reduce the swelling. The actual treatment with Juvéderm can take between 15 and 45 minutes as we are artists with the needle. Lips need to be even and can swell during the procedure so we need to keep the swelling down with ice as we go along. Many clients comment how painless and simple the experience is for them. We have done hundreds of lips each month and are well versed in making it a great experience for our clients.

Preparing for Your Lip Filler Treatment

We tell our Beautox Bar clients to prep before they primp with these four tips: Take Arnica Montana pellets 3-5 days before the appointment. Simply dissolve 5-6 pellets under the tongue each day. Arnica Montana is a natural supplement that helps prevent bruising and swelling. We offer it for just $11.99 at our clinic or you can pick some up at Whole Foods or your local co-op. We suggest that you don’t do these 3 things the week of your lip filler appointment:
● Don’t drink alcohol
● Don’t take fish oil
● Don’t take ibuprofen

These three things can thin the blood and cause bruising and more swelling. We also suggest no vaccines or dental work of any kind at least 30 days prior to treatment. Some can have a hyper inflammation response to the fillers due to a vaccine in their system and dental work can cause issues as well.

After Your Lip Filler Treatment

After your lip filler, we suggest following these tips for 2- 3 days after treatment as well:
● No exercise
● No sweating (sauna, hot tub, or sitting outside in extreme heat)
● No pressure on the lips so sleep face up, maybe put pillows around you so you don’t turn.
● No straws or puckering
● No masks so that you don’t get an infection, or change out every 1 - 2 hours.
● No vaccines for at least another 30 days
● No dental work for at least 2 weeks
● Keep your lips hydrated with balms or something like Aquaphor
● Exfoliate your lips with a sugar scrub as they will stretch and the skin may start to peel One thing to keep in mind is that it takes 2 weeks for your lips to settle in. You may experience some lumps and bumps which is normal. If they don’t even out, simply come see us and we can even them out. We can always dissolve areas with a bit of Hyaluronidase. We stand behind our work and we want you to love your lips.

Can Anyone Receive Lip Filler Treatments?

You can be under 18 to get your lips done, but you must have a parent with you who signs all the consents for you and is there for the treatment. A person under 18 can’t consent or sign any agreements. If you are over 18 but under 21, you must sign an agreement/ consent that you are aware that Beautox Bar nor any employee or the product vendor are liable should you have any issues. All clients must sign a Juvéderm consent form along with our HIPAA consent, privacy policies and arbitration, and covid waivers.

Are Lip Filler Treatments Affordable?

When it comes to costs we charge by the syringe. Our most popular lip filler is Juvéderm Ultra which is $550 for a syringe.

Juvéderm Vycross is Allergan’s most recent released range of dermal filler products which are longer-lasting, smoother to inject, biodegradable, and reversible. They represent the latest technology in dermal fillers moving things forward from its highly successful Juvéderm Ultra range. A Vycross filler we offer is Juvéderm Volbella which provides more of a subtle look and we find men who don’t have any lips really like how this gives them volume with keeping their manly look. Women use it too who just need a bit more volume. The cost is $650 for a syringe.

Another Vycross filler we offer is Juvéderm Vollure is a filler that is supposed to last longer, up to 18 months and doesn’t swell as much as Ultra but we find that using this filler in the lips gives it more movement so it doesn’t last as long. When we inject Vollure in other areas of the face it does tend to last up to 18 months but in the lips, we find it “wears out” fast due to the movement of the lips. Does that make sense? Nicole responds – “totally”.

The cost for getting your lips done not only includes the price of the filler that is chosen but, more importantly, the skill and expertise of the Registered Nurse Injectionist who is administering your treatment. All Beautox Bar injectionists are registered nurses who are licensed and trained and have years of experience treating clients with the JUVÉDERM® Collection. Be wary of discount products or “cheap” JUVÉDERM® Collection treatments —if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

It is more important for us to take the time to understand your treatment goals and develop a treatment plan that is right for you. The best way to save money on lip filler is to join Allē, the new and improved loyalty program by the makers of JUVÉDERM®, for savings on treatments within the JUVÉDERM® Collection. With Allē, you can earn 200 points for qualifying JUVÉDERM® treatments that you can redeem for savings on future treatments.

Allē also rewards you for getting a variety of in-office treatments from other brands too. Then, redeem points for savings on your favorite Allergan Aesthetics brands. Use points as you go, or store them in your Wallet for big savings later. 100 Points = $10 toward

We also have our Beautox Bar App where you will get a stamp for each time you get treated for filler anywhere on the face. When you have had 3 stamps or 3 treatments, your 4 treatments are half off! Now that is a generous loyalty program.

Getting your lips done really can be a good experience with rewarding after effects such as more confidence and more smiles. For many of our clients they say that they simply feel better about themselves.
