There are many misnomers and misconceptions about Botox. We want to set the story straight and share with you the Truth about Botox.

Botox is botulinum toxin that was first used in 1978 to treat misalignment of the eyes. However, it was eventually noticed that the patients receiving this treatment showed diminished facial lines so this resulted in Botox’s adoption for cosmetic use. In fact, before it became known as Botox, the company that acquired the rights to it—Allergan— first marketed it under the brand name Oculinum (Oc-u-lynn-um). In 2002, Botox became FDA- approved to improve the appearance of facial wrinkles and it remains the only FDA- approved substance to this day to improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

While it’s become almost a catch-all term like Kleenex is for tissue, Botox Cosmetic—is actually a brand name that is owned by Allergan. As such, there are other off-brands of botulinum toxins made by other manufacturers. So be aware of what you are actually being injected with.

How Botox Works In the Body

Botox works by blocking signals from the brain to the muscles in the target area. This essentially paralyzes them and fixes them in place, so the skin above the treatment sites becomes significantly less-wrinkled. A common misconception of Botox is that it leaves you expressionless. That simply isn't true!

We often see memes where they show a celebrity before and after photo and the after photo looks horrific. The after photo is NOT Botox, it is after plastic surgery. People think being botched is from Botox when it actually can be from plastic surgery.

Conditions Botox Treats

Botox is not only for fine lines and wrinkles on the forehead, frown lines, crow’s feet, bunny lines, the 11’s in between the eyes, and marionette lines, but it can also be used for:
● Eyelid spasms
● Excessive sweating under the arms, hands, and forehead
● Reduce migraines and tension headaches
● Reduce pore size
● Reduce vertical bands on the neck
 ● Teeth grinding

 You know when you clench your teeth, look in the mirror and look at your neck. Are the cords pronounced? We can inject them with Botox to reduce the appearance of the cords so your neck looks younger. We all know the neck is where we show our age.

Botox can even help you if you grind your teeth at night. We simply inject the matador muscles on each side of the face. When it comes to excessive sweating otherwise known as hyperhidrosis, Botox is very effective at blocking nerve signals associated with sweating, thus putting the brakes on hyperactive sweat glands.

 One thing that is an interesting intangible fact about Botox is that it can do wonders for mental health because it brings back a significant amount of personal confidence that’s been lost to aging. It can put a spring back in someone’s step, which is huge in today’s world.

 

What to Expect From Botox Treatment

While Botox can be applied fairly quickly, you shouldn’t expect it to work immediately. In fact, it can take a week to two weeks to see full results as the drug will need some time to bind to the connection points between the muscles and nerves. It lasts for 3-4 months and then the treatment gradually wears off and the muscles return to their original condition. However, the treatment itself does not alter your natural features.

How Beautox Bar’s Botox Treatments Differ From Other Medispas Here at Beautox Bar we reconstitute Botox Cosmetics 1:1; meaning we dilute it 1 to 1 with saline solution. Other medispas can dilute their Botox up to 2.5 to 1 with saline which makes it less potent and more runny. Our Botox is very precise and potent.

We make Botox very affordable at Beautox Bar. We charge $11 per unit all day, every day. Now when our clients download our App, we will mark the App each time they receive 20 units or more. When they receive 4 marks, then their 5th Botox treatment is only $7 per unit. This is our loyalty program.  We also have a Botox VIP Membership. Clients who need between 30- 49 units of Botox can become a VIP member where they pay $125 annually to receive their Botox all year long for $9.75 per unit. If they need 50 units or more, especially for matador muscles or excessive sweating, then they will receive Botox without the VIP membership for $10 per unit.

 The amount of Botox needed to treat facial wrinkles will differ from site to site. The forehead, for instance, will require 5 to 25 u, the glabella (space between the eyebrows) calls for anywhere from 20 to 25 u, and the lateral orbital lines (crow’s feet) will need 5 to 15 u. To add that up, our average per unit for clients is 42 units to do the forehead and around the eyes.

We Get Lots of Lip Flip Requests. What The Heck is a Lip Flip?

Lip Flips are very popular right now because they give your lip a pop without filler. Lots of younger clients request this treatment. A lip flip is using Botox in the lips to define them and lift up the top lip. We put in anywhere between 2 and 8 units of Botox in the lips and it lasts about 3 months.

We see lots of people who are afraid of the needle. We sympathize with those who have fear and we want to make everyone comfortable. We can offer numbing cream so the injections are less painful or even painless. We do have stress balls they can hold onto and we will give them water. But we do our best to be gentle and we pride ourselves in our bedside manner. We want to make our clients feel good, even laugh so they are in a good state of mind when being treated.

The Truth About Botox - Is it Safe?

Botox has been used for over 30 years and for almost 20 years as an FDA approved cosmetic treatment.We are not able to treat anyone who is pregnant or breastfeeding.  We also don’t treat those who have had any type of vaccinations within 30 days.It is best to wait at least 30 days for any elective cosmetic treatment after a vaccine since your body is building up immunity.Some people can have a hyper immune or inflammation response to Botox and fillers.We have seen few clients who have an immunity to Botox, meaning they get no result which is very uncommon.

Otherwise there isn’t a real risk in getting Botox.Your body absorbs it and then gets rid of it when you sweat or eliminate it.As far as social dangers, you may get a dropped eyebrow or lid, which can be treated.There is no downtime with Botox.You simply need to keep moving your muscles to let it set in.You can take Tylenol but stay way from ibuprofen to keep from bruising.It is also a good idea not to exercise or sweat the day of and day after a Botox treatment.
